Jean Malouel's tondo  Pieta that hes also been used as a design element in architecture since the Renaissance, became fashionable in 15th century  Florence with Botticelli, Michelangelo although the earliest true Renaissance painted tondo is Burgundian, from Champmol of a Pieta by Jean Malouel of 1370-1415.

The Rijksmuseum honors the first Northern Netherlandish painter Johan Melwael who was uncle of the legendary Limbourg Brothers and was active as a versatile,pioneering and productive artist at the courts of the Dukes of Guelders and Burgundy around 1400.
'The exhibition of his Large Round Pieta'as The Rijksmuseum explains' is organized with the exceptional support of the Musee du Louvre that lends Johan Melwael's most famous painting
'La Grande Pieta ronde' which has never left Paris since 1962.
The panel will make its first appearance in The Netherlands.

Jean Malouel's artwork 'Large Round Pieta' will be exhibited at the Rijksmuseum together with art treasures,illuminated manuscripts,precious metalwork and sculpture.
The Rijksmuseum underline also that 'paintings attributed to Johan Maelwael and his contemporaries Jean Beaumetz,Colart de Laon and Henri Bellechose will be juxtaposed not only with the sculptures by Andre Beauneveu,Claes Sluter and Claes van Werve but also with the richly decorated illuminated manuscripts of the famous Limbourg brothers.

The round panel,which is one of the rare Johan Maelwael's works to have survived in immaculate condition purchased by The Louvre in 1864.
Other exceptional loans will come from the Bibliotheque nationale de France in Paris, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and others.

Marc Chagall's Calvary in The Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam

Marc Chagall's masterpiece 'Calvery',1912 is a depiction of his super reality, alogical, and  irrational imagination as Guillaume Apollinaire refer to him as a ' surrealist' and as Andre Breton call also him the 'Pope of Surrealism'.

Frans' Post 34 unknown drawings at The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. The Netherlands.

Spectacular discovery of 17th century Golden Age the drawings by Frans Post(1612-1680) which are on display at The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam from 7 October 2016 to 8 January.
Under the title 'Frans Post.Animals in Brazil' the exhibition present 34 unrecognized for centuries artworks by Frans Post from Haarlem-The Netherlands-which were discovered in the Noord-Holland Archief, Haarlem,created by Frans Post in the years 1637-1644 when he worked in Brazil.
The first European artist who painted landscapes and therefore of South Africa but as we know now also animals in Brazil, Frans Post contemporary of Frans Hall traveled in 1636 to Dutch Brazil at the invitation of Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen.
