Matisse's color and Amsterdam.

Henry Matisse's ( 1869- 1954) exploratory artistic expedition is only in theory over..
In practice he is always giving us his artistic inspiration that is regarded as responsible for laying the basis for the art movements as impressionism, post-impressionism, experimental abstraction, fauvism, plastic art and cut-out technique.

reveals  Matisse's influences in the modern art in which clearly flouts the rules of academic painting  and his inspirational artistic compositions.
According to the Stedelijk Museum's analysis of Matisse's artistic periods ' his early drawings we can easily trace his development from an academic to an uniquely expressive style from still lives to human figures and an ever growing- attention for details and textures. These developments would continue in his drawings.... some of his works displayed his desire to express himself in shape and colors.

In all these means of expression he attests of his love of decorative elements and sumptuous compositions.                      .

Henri Emily Benoit Matisse was born in Le Cateau Cambresis (north France) and in 1889 began painting in a traditional and classic way scenes of places in the countryside.
As an art student in Paris he influenced by masters as Jean- Baptiste-Simeone Chardin, N Poussin as well as by Mane and Japance art.
Later on the impressionism in general but particularly Van Gogh , Gauguin and Cezane were for him the most important 'artistic' reasons for changing his thoughts about own styles.
As the Stedelijk Museum explains '.. Matisse like his contemporary Piet Mondrian, increasingly distance himself from a naturalistic style of painting. In these rather conservative paintings which barely hint at the innovations that both artists were to introduce later, experimantation seems a long way off ...'

In 1905 Matisse's group well known as ' Fauves' exhibited for the first time at the Salon d' Automne followed by harsh criticism. The critic C. Mauclair wrote '...A pot of paint has been flung in the face of the public...'
The Fauvist movement that didn't exist any more in 1906 did not affect Matisse's art. The years from 1906- when he met also Pablo Picasso- were the most creative in his career.
Henri Matisse's leading figure who was also printmaker and sculptor connected with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp as one of the three who created significant developments in the plastic art.
