Artzuid. International Sculpture Route Amsterdam 2011 in Virtueel Museum at Zuidplein has been enjoyed the life...
The " Joy of life " wood- sculpture of Mattijs Bredewold and Urlik Kristensen is part of this enjoying.
Matisse had used the same title in 1906. He painted a heavenly pleasure garden full of cuples locked in instimate embrance and 40 years later Picasso represented his family using the same title ' Joy of life".
In the installation of Mattijs Bredewold and Urlik Kristensen we also find a ' Joy of life ' but in the modern way of our life...Their ' Joy of life ' fits in a modern-day version, where the blissful togetherness and romantic scene ' hand by hand', has been replaced by a virtual relationship.
This is also expressed literally in the two different locations of the sculptures. That means the different relationship of our time which is using the mobile phone instead of the ' hand by hand' joy of life. The contact between the people takes place by mobile phone.
The man is on Zuidplein and the two woman are on Gustav Mahlerplein. The cubist shape of their bodies make them look like futuristic robots.
Modern people who enjoy the" Joy of life ' in a different way.
The way of enjoying today.
